Nothing Ventured...
… nothing gained. That’s the saying isn’t it?
This is a new venture for me. A huge leap out of my comfort zone. But this is a topic I feel so strongly about so here I am eagerly (ish) ready and raring to share my ideas with the internet.
I’ve been drawn to talking about wellbeing in business for along time now. It stemmed from being told to “suck it up” when I expressed how vulnerable I found it to show up online. Or being told I was “too sensitive” when I struggled with negative comments on social media.
Why is the narrative that our worth as a person is linked to how hard we work or what we achieve? Why must we just accept the parts of our business that make us feel stressed or overwhelmed or even unwell? I hate the hustle culture, the productive 5am routines and the constant message to push, push, push!
I’m quite sure I can’t be alone in struggling with the effects that running a business can have on my wellbeing. I know I’m not alone in experiencing exhaustion and burnout.
So that brings us to what I’m doing here on Substack.
My goal is to share the ups and downs and the human feelings behind running a business. I wouldn’t necessarily describe myself as a writer. (That feels too lofty and my imposter syndrome is having a field day!) But I’m here to do my best, to become better and most importantly with the hope of helping others that also feel a little like I do.
Moments that Matter
Each week I plan to share with you a selection of “moments” from my week that have felt magical, joyful or just made it all feel worthwhile.
Beautiful connections.
This week I’ve been channelling some wonderful creative energy from my lovely friend Claire. Somehow whenever I spend time with her I seem to feel that much clearer and more creative. You can find Claire at Creatively Conscious. I spent some time this week at her gorgeous Soul Space Tipi where I was working with some reflexology clients.
Slow mornings.
The weather has been glorious this week. Perfect to take my morning cup of tea outside, wander through the flowers in the sanctuary that is my garden and then curl up in my favourite shady spot with my journal. I’m well aware of how quickly the summer holidays are passing and I’m really trying to savour these mornings without the rush of the school run.
Being Brave.
If you’re used to writing and blogging then me starting this substack is probably no big deal. But sharing my writing is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time and I’ve never really been quite brave enough. So here I am, celebrating my own little wins.
I’d love to hear what has brought you joy this week? Do comment below and let me know.
Wishing you a wonderful week.
